History

The garden club was established in 1978 by local resident Mary Larson and some of her friends. They got together in each other’s home to learn more about home gardening.  Over the years, the garden club grew from approximately 25 members to over 90 active members today.  Meeting ten months each year, we learn about all aspects of gardening and plant management from experts in their fields, do hands-on gardening projects, enjoy workshops, trips, and committee work.

Civic Projects

A core value of the Garden Club is community service.  Members have been involved in many local community civic projects over the past forty years. Projects have included establishment and maintenance of gardens, educational projects for school children, floral crafts and gardening with  the elderly,  making and distributing wreaths at Christmas, and exhibiting at local fairs and community events.

Scholarships

The Quiet Corner Garden Club has a long-standing tradition of offering scholarships to local high school seniors  who have been accepted to college with the intention of majoring in an agriculture/horticulture-related field of study, such as agronomy, floriculture, forestry, landscape design, environmental studies, or other allied studies.  Recently, the scholarship committee  broadened its scholarship program, adding eligibility to college students with similar majors. The club also funds  a scholarship to a garden club member interested in obtaining for a CT master gardener certificate.
