Educational Programs
Each month we offer a free lecture on topics ranging from growing a meadow to using native pollinators. Some recent topics have included:
- Soil – It’s Not Just Dirt – improving soil for good plant health.
- Saving Seeds and Starting Seeds Indoors
- Vermiculture – Composting with Worms
- Beekeeping and How to Start
- Foraging for Edible Mushrooms
- Organic Gardening Methods
Beautification/ Conservation
Club members enjoy volunteering their gardening skills to beautify public gardens, parks, arboretums, senior housing and schools.
Each December we donate hand-made Christmas wreaths to over 55 municipal buildings in our service area.
Exhibits
We exhibit at local town fairs and farmers’ markets, where we provide information on gardening and conservation efforts. Venues include:
- The Woodstock Fair
- Celebrating Agriculture Day
- The Killingly Great Tomato Festival
- Thompson Community Day
Scholarships
Each year scholarships are awarded to high school and college students majoring in horticulture-related fields of study.
In addition, a CT Master Gardener scholarship is available to one garden club member annually.
